Overview

The Natural State lives up to its nickname for birders, with the Ozark highlands harboring eastern woodland species and the vast bottomland hardwoods of the Delta region supporting wintering waterfowl in staggering numbers. Holla Bend NWR and Millwood Lake are among the top birding destinations. TrailBird is expanding to cover Arkansas's birding hotspots with live eBird data, trail maps, and seasonal guides.

Seasonal Birding Guide

Warblers and vireos flood the Ozark forests in April and May. Shorebirds stop at flooded rice fields.

Painted Buntings and Dickcissels breed in open country. Chuck-will's-widows call at dusk.

Waterfowl begin arriving in the Delta by October. Sparrows fill the grasslands and field edges.

Massive duck concentrations in the Cache and White River bottoms. Bald Eagles gather along reservoirs.
