Overview

Oregon offers birders a stunning diversity of habitats within a single state. The wet, temperate coast supports Marbled Murrelets and nesting Tufted Puffins, while the Cascade Range divides the state into distinctly different eastern and western bird communities. Malheur NWR in the high desert southeast is one of the West's legendary birding destinations, and the Klamath Basin hosts spectacular waterfowl concentrations. TrailBird is expanding to cover Oregon's birding hotspots with live eBird data, trail maps, and seasonal guides.

Seasonal Birding Guide

Shorebirds fill coastal estuaries. Migrant songbirds move through the Cascade foothills and Malheur basin.

Breeding Sage-Grouse in the high desert. Tufted Puffins nest at Haystack Rock. Mountain species sing in the Cascades.

Waterbird migration along the coast. Raptor migration and vagrant season at coastal headlands.

Klamath Basin hosts one of the largest Bald Eagle concentrations in the lower 48. Sea ducks and alcids line the coast.
