Overview

Wyoming's rugged terrain and sparse population create ideal habitat for wide-ranging western species. Greater Sage-Grouse display on leks across the sagebrush steppe, Trumpeter Swans breed in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the Tetons provide stunning mountain birding with American Dippers and Harlequin Ducks. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks draw birders from around the world. TrailBird is expanding to cover Wyoming's birding hotspots with live eBird data, trail maps, and seasonal guides.

Seasonal Birding Guide

Greater Sage-Grouse leks are at their peak in April. Trumpeter Swans return to breeding lakes. Migrant songbirds arrive in the mountain valleys.

Breeding Calliope Hummingbirds and Clark's Nutcrackers in the mountains. Prairie Falcons and Golden Eagles nest on canyon walls.
